Part of the enjoyment of a getaway is experiencing the local cuisine. Besides the gourmet breakfasts that you’ll receive during your stay at the Inn on Riverbend, there are also a number of outstanding restaurants only a quick drive away from our B&B. One stand-out eatery that we highly recommend is the Palisades Restaurant just down the road in Eggleston, Virginia.
With a seasonal menu that includes everything from pizza to braised duck with dumplings, there are plenty of mouthwatering options to choose from, each as delicious as the next. Sink your teeth into rainbow trout, enhanced with buttermilk biscuit breading, cultured butter, and lemon blood orange marmalade. Indulge in a charred veggie pizza, scattered with charred onions, roasted tomatoes and peppers, and seared squash. Treat yourself to the assortment of goodies on the Truffle Platter—caramelized banana, espresso with roasted hazelnut, orange ginger rolled in sesame, chili rolled in cocoa powder, and more. (Is your mouth watering yet?)
Not only does the Palisades offer a variety of delectable culinary delights, but they also provide a glimpse into the history of the area: “A century ago, Eggleston was the hub of Giles County and drew visitors from all over the United States. They arrived by train (which still runs through the village) to enjoy its beauty and hot springs. Occupying what was formerly Pyne’s General Store, the Palisades Restaurant recaptures the former charm and spirit of Eggleston” (The Palisades Restaurant).
On your next visit to Inn at Riverbend, stop by the Palisades for a bite to eat and a bit of history. We look forward to seeing you soon!
